現在一般に使用されている太陽暦で、1582年にグレゴリウス13世によってユリウス暦の誤りを修正するために導入され、10日間を削除し（10月5日を10月15日とした）、400で割り切れる世紀年のみを閏年とする規定を設けた。イギリスとアメリカの植民地では1752年に採用された。
