中国語の 氣 が英語に入った語。体を巡る生命の力、つまり「気」を指し、気功・太極拳・鍼灸の説明で使われる。
綴りは chi のほか qi とも書き、q の方はピンインをそのまま写したもの。ギリシャ文字のカイ（chi、χ）とはまったく別で、たまたま同じ綴りになっているだけ。 英語では chi energy・the flow of chi のような組み合わせで使われ、医学の語ではなく、思想や身体技法を語るための語として扱われている。
