心地よい香りの低木で、直立して細長く柔軟で毛の多い枝と、小さな黄色い花の密集した房があり、ジャックラビットが隠れ場所にする広大な西部のアルカリ平原を覆っています。ナバホ族が使用する黄色染料の原料でもあります。
