bronchospasmの語源と覚え方
覚え方
broncho-（気管支の）+ spasm（突然の筋肉のけいれん）。気管支を取り巻く筋肉が急に縮んで、空気の通り道が細くなる状態を指す医学用語。
spasm の奥にあるのは *(s)peh₂-（引く・引き出す）で、「ぐいと引きつる」感覚。同じ流れの spasmodic（発作的な）・spastic（けいれん性の）と並べると、bronchospasm が「気管支のひきつり」だと読める。
補足: 喘息発作の中心にある現象で、気管支を広げる薬は bronchodilator。broncho- は bronchitis（気管支炎）・bronchoscopy（気管支鏡検査）にも共通する。
