3世紀にマニによって創始された宗教。光と闇のゾロアスター教の二元論、バビロニアの伝承、仏教の倫理、一部のキリスト教の要素を統合したもので、ローマ帝国で広く広まりましたが、1000年頃にはほぼ消滅しました。
