synthesisの語源と覚え方
覚え方
syn は「共に」、the は「置く」。ばらばらの要素を一つの場所に置き合わせることから、「総合」、さらに物質を組み合わせて作る「化学合成」になった。
分けて調べる analysis と対になる語で、a synthesis of ideas なら、複数の考えをまとめ上げたもの。protein synthesis ならタンパク質の合成。
synthetic（合成の）や synthesize（合成する）も同じ組み立て。「要素を一つに置いてまとめる」という一本の線で通して覚えよう。
