analy は「解く・ほどく」、sis は行為や過程を表す名詞の印。全体をほどいて、仕組みを調べられる単位にすること、それが「分析」。
lysis の部分に「ほどく・緩める」が入っている。動詞は analyse、行う人は analyst。crisis・diagnosis と同じ -sis の形で、どれも「〜すること」を表す。
ほどくのが analysis、組み立てるのが synthesis（総合）。この二つを対にして押さえると、芯がはっきりする。
