wrist は古英語 wrist（手首）を受け継ぐ語。手と前腕をつなぐ関節の部分を表し、bend your wrist は「手首を曲げる」となる。指の関節や腕全体ではなく、手が向きを変える付け根を思い浮かべるとよい。
a watch on her wrist は「彼女の手首にある時計」。wristwatch「腕時計」、wristband「リストバンド」のような複合語でも、前半が取り付ける位置を示している。時計やバンドを巻く、手の付け根を記憶の目印にしよう。綴りでは wr- で始まるが、語頭の w は発音しない。
