skewの語源と覚え方
覚え方
ノルマン系の古フランス語 escuer（避ける）から。まっすぐ進まずに横へそれることで、英語では「斜めにする・ゆがめる」。
統計では、データの分布が一方に偏ることを言い、skewed results（偏った結果）・skewed distribution（歪んだ分布）の形で使う。
副詞の askew（斜めに）も同じ流れで、a picture hanging askew（傾いて掛かった絵）のように使う。
