intactの語源と覚え方
覚え方
ラテン語 intāctus（損なわれていない・無傷の） = in-（〜でない）+ tāctus（触れた・掴んだ）。つまり「触れられていないもの」が原義で、手を加えられたり壊されたりしていない状態を表すようになった。
ここでの in- は「中へ」ではなく否定の「〜でない」。tāctus が表す「触れる」ことを打ち消しているため、intact は「完全な」「損なわれていない」「原形を保った」という意味になる。
同じ touch のイメージは contact（共に触れる→接触）・tactile（触覚の）・tangent（触れるもの→接線）にも見られる。tact を見たら「触れる」、in- が前につけば「触れられていない」と読むのがコツ。
