覚え方
academ はプラトンの学園アカデメイアの名。そこに「〜に関する」の ic が付いて、原義は「学院に属する」。そこから「大学の・学術的な」が中心の意味になり、名詞では研究者自身も指す。
もう一つ大事なのが「机上の・現実には意味のない」という語義。The question is purely academic. は「学問の中でだけ成り立つ話」という使い方。
academic year（学年度）、academic freedom（学問の自由）が定型表現。名詞 academy は学院、形容詞 academic は学問の／机上の、と分けるとよい。
