覚え方
an（母音の前の不定冠詞）+ other（別の） が中英語で一語に固まったもの。もとは古英語の ān（一つの）と ōþer（他の・第二の）で、「もう一つの・別の」。
中に a/an が隠れているので、another は常に数えられる名詞の単数につく。another book とは言えても another books とは言わない（複数なら other books）。「もう一つ」と「別の（種類の）」の二つの意味を、文脈で読み分ける。
補足: 2010年のミステリー小説『Another』は、クラスに紛れ込んだ「本来いるはずのない“もう一人”」を探す話で、タイトルがそのまま語義になっている。one another（お互いに）という定型も押さえておきたい。
