覚え方
ラテン語 lēctor(読者・朗読者)= legō(集める・選ぶ)+ -tor(〜する人)。legō は「拾い集める」から「文字を拾う=読む」の意味も担い、その行為者を表したのが lēctor。
英語では教会で聖書を朗読する役、大学で講読を担当する教員を指す。
同じ legō からは lecture(朗読・講義)・legend(読まれるべきもの→伝説)が、「選ぶ」の側からは select・collect・elect が出ている。
