rantの語源と覚え方
覚え方
オランダ語 ranten（怒って長々と話す） の借用。中身の筋よりも勢いと長さが特徴で、「まくし立てる・わめき散らす」という否定的な色を帯びる。
動詞では rant about the government（政府について延々と文句を言う）、名詞では go on a rant（長広舌をふるう）。決まり文句の rant and rave（わめき散らす）は二語をそろえて勢いを強めた形。
補足: 同じ「怒る」でも、rage は怒りそのもの、rant は口から出る長い抗議を指す。SNS の長文投稿を a rant と呼ぶのも同じ感覚。
