覚え方

ラテン語 accessiō（接近・付加）に由来する。accēdō（近づく・寄る）+ -tiō（動作・過程・結果を表す名詞） で、「近づいて加わること」が原義。

そこから、王位や役職に「就くこと」＝即位・就任と、コレクションや財産に「加わったもの」＝新規取得の二方向へ広がった。access（入る手段）・accede（就任する・同意する）と同族で、「そこへ寄っていって加わる」が共通の芯。

補足: 即位の礼は ceremony of accession、皇位継承は imperial succession、皇室典範は imperial house law と訳される。
