覚え方
jac はラテン語 iaciō（投げる・据える）につながる部分で、そこから「置かれて横たわる」の iaceō が生まれた。ad（〜へ）が付いた adiaceō は「すぐそばに横たわる」で、そのまま「隣接した」になった。
near より位置関係が密で、すぐ隣にある感じ。ただし物理的に境界が接しているとは限らない。
adjacent to the station（駅に隣接して）のように to をとる。数学の adjacent angles（隣接角）、グラフ理論の「辺でつながっている」にも使う。名詞は adjacency（隣接）。
