dashboardの語源と覚え方
覚え方
dash（勢いよく打ちつける）+ board（板）。馬車の前面に立てた板が起源で、馬の蹄が跳ね上げる泥や小石を受け止める「打ちつけられる板」だった。
自動車の時代になると運転席前の面がそのまま dashboard と呼ばれ、そこに計器が並んだので「計器盤」に。近年はソフトウェアで指標をまとめて表示する画面も指す。「前面の板 → 情報が並ぶ面」という広がりである。
補足: 英国では fascia とも言う。IT の「ダッシュボード」は日本語でもそのまま使われる。
