them + -self の複数形。-self は単数で -self、複数で -selves になるため、himself・herself に対して themselves という形になる。

使い方は二つ。主語と目的語が同じ人を指す再帰用法（They hurt themselves）と、「自分たちで」と強める用法（They built it themselves）。単数の they を受けるときは themself も使われる。
