announcementの語源と覚え方
覚え方
announce（公表する）+ -ment（行為やその結果を表す名詞をつくる）。中期フランス語 annoncement（公示・告知）が形の後ろ盾になっている。
-ment は「する行為」と「できあがったもの」の両方を表すので、announcement は「告知するという行為」も「告知された内容そのもの」も指す。make an announcement（発表する）は前者、a short announcement（短い告知文）は後者。
補足: 発音は「アナウンスメント」で、第二音節に強勢が来る。日本語の「アナウンス」は名詞扱いだが、英語の announce は動詞なので、名詞にするときはこの -ment 形を使う。
