覚え方
ラテン語 annūntiātiō（告知）= adnūntiō（告げる）+ -tiō（動作や結果を表す名詞をつくる）。「相手に向けて告げること」。
同じ出自の announcement が日常の発表全般に使えるのに対し、annunciation は儀礼的・宗教的な「正式な告知」に限られる。大文字の the Annunciation は受胎告知（天使ガブリエルがマリアに告げた場面）を指し、西洋絵画の主題名としてよく出てくる。
補足: 綴りは annunciation で u、動詞の announce は ou。混同しやすいので名詞の側だけ u と覚えるとよい。
