覚え方
core の語源ははっきりしない。古仏語 cuer（心臓）からとする説もあり、cuer は「心臓」を表す語根にさかのぼる語で、体の中心にある心臓を指した。もともと英語にあった語とする説や、「体」を表す古仏語からとする説もある。
cuer の説に沿って、「体の中心にあるもの」から「果物や物事の中心部・芯」へとつなげると覚えやすい。中英語の core はりんごの芯や髄を指した。
「心臓」の語根の仲間には cardiac（心臓の）・cordial（心のこもった、もとは「心臓の」の意）があり、cor/card を見たら「心臓・中心」と読むのがコツ。
