覚え方
ラテン語 dictiō（言うこと・話）= dīcō（言う・述べる）+ -tiō（動作や結果を表す名詞を作る）。「言い方そのもの」を指す語。
英語では二方向に使う。文章については 「語の選び方・言葉づかい」（poetic diction＝詩語）、話し方については 「発音の明瞭さ・滑舌」（clear diction）。歌唱や演劇の講評に出てくるのは後者。
芯の *deyḱ-（指し示す） は dictionary（辞書）・dictate（命じる）・predict（予言する）・contradict（言い返す＝矛盾する）と同じ。dict は「言う」で、前後の部品が方向を決める。
