fact（事実）+ -ual（〜に関する）+ -ly（副詞を作る） で「事実の面では」。factually correct は「事実としては正しい」で、しばしば「ただし印象は誤解を招く」という含みを伴う。
この語が切り分けているのは、内容そのものの真偽と、その言い方や意味づけ。報道の検証や議論の反論でよく使われる。
fact の芯は *dʰeh₁-（置く・なす）で、「なされたこと」が「事実」になった。affect（働きかける）・perfect（やり尽くした→完全な）と同族。
