覚え方
ラテン語 auctor（創始者・推進者）は、augeō（増やす・成長させる）+ -tor（動作主を表す接尾辞）。人や計画を「成長させ、前へ押し進める人」という原義から、「創始者」、さらに作品を生み出す「著者・作家」へ意味が広がった。
augeō の「増やす」イメージを押さえると、author は単に文章を書く人ではなく、作品や考えを世に生み出す人だと覚えやすい。auct- を見たら「増やして生み出す」→「創始する」と読むのがコツ。
