覚え方
contribute（全体の一部を提供する）+ -or（〜する人・物）。もとはラテン語 contribuō（結合させる・割り当てる）＝ con-（共に）+ tribuō（割り当てる・与える） で、めいめいが割り当て分を出し合って一つにするのが原義。
出すものは金でも力でも文章でもよく、寄付者・出資者、雑誌などの寄稿者、そして「一因」を指す（a major contributor to climate change 気候変動の大きな要因）。
tribuō の仲間は tribute（貢ぎ物・賛辞）・distribute（分けて割り当てる→配る）・attribute（割り当てる→〜のせいにする）。tribut を見たら「割り当てて出す」と読むとよい。
