覚え方
bare（裸の・覆いのない）+ faced（顔を向けた）。仮面もひげも覆いもない、むき出しの顔をさらしている状態が原義。
そこから「隠そうともしない」＝あからさまな・厚かましい。barefaced lie（見え透いた真っ赤な嘘）が代表的な言い方で、恥じる様子もなく正面から嘘をつく含みがある。
補足: 同義で bald-faced lie・bold-faced lie も使われる。bare は barefoot（はだし）・bareback（鞍なしで）と同じ「何も着けない」。
