覚え方
古英語 clūd（岩・丘） から出た語。空に浮かぶ雲の大きな塊が、遠くに見える岩山や丘のかたまりに重なって見えたことから、地上の「岩」を指す語が空の「雲」を指すようになった。
雲は視界を覆って物を見えなくするので、動詞では「曇らせる・覆い隠す」。cloud one's judgment（判断を曇らせる）のように、心や判断についても使う。
現代では計算資源の集積地も cloud（クラウド）と呼ぶが、根っこは同じ「空に浮かぶ大きな塊」。cloudy（曇った）・clouded（覆われた）と合わせて押さえるとよい。
