覚え方
aero-（空気）+ sol（微粒子が分散したもの） で「気体の中に細かい粒子が漂っているもの」。霧・煙・スプレーの噴霧がこれにあたる。
sol は solution（溶液）の系統で、芯は *lewh₁-（解く・放つ）。solve（解く）・dissolve（溶かす）と同族で、「ばらばらに解けて散らばった状態」を指す。液体の中に散っていれば sol、空気の中に散っていれば aerosol。
日常語ではスプレー缶（an aerosol can）そのものを指すことも多い。aero- は *h₂ews- の系統で、aerobic・aerodynamics と同じ「空気」。
