覚え方
constellation は、ラテン語 cōnstēllātiōnem(星座・星の配列)に由来する。con-(共に)によって、空にある複数の星をひとまとまりとして捉える語で、星の輝きや熱を思わせる *h₂eHs-、*h₂eh₁s- のイメージとも結びつく。
もともとの「星の集まり・星の配列」から、現在の「星座」になり、さらに比喩的に「関連するものの一群」も表す。con- は「共に」、stell を含む形は「星の集まり」と覚えれば、a constellation of factors(要因の一群)のような抽象的な用法にも対応できる。
