drawnの語源と覚え方
覚え方
draw（引く、印欧祖語 *dʰregʰ-「引きずる」に由来）に過去分詞を作る -n が付いた語。「引かれた状態」がそのまま原義で、糸や紐を「引っ張って」ぴんと張った様子をイメージさせる。
顔や表情が「引っ張られて」こわばっている、というところから、drawn は「緊張した・やつれた」様子を表す形容詞としても使われるようになった。
同じ draw を持つ語には withdraw（引き戻す→撤退する）や drawer（引き出し）がある。draw/drawn を見たら「引く・張る」と読み、そこから「張りつめた」というニュアンスにつなげると覚えやすい。
