finis1の語源と覚え方
覚え方
ラテン語 fīnis（終わり・境界）がそのまま英語に取り込まれた語。書物や映画の最後に置いて「おしまい」を示す印として使われる。
日常の会話にはほとんど出てこず、古い本の末尾や、少し気取った言い回しの中で見かける程度。同じ意味の The End より形式ばった響きを持つ。
この fīnis からは finish（終える）・final（最終の）・finite（限りのある）・define（境界を定める）・finance（決着をつける→財政）が出ている。fin を見たら「終わり・境界」と読める。
