覚え方
ラテン語 intendō(伸ばす・注意を向ける・目指す)は、in-(中へ)+ tendō(伸ばす・向かう)から成る。*en-(中へ)という方向感覚が加わり、意識や努力をある対象へ伸ばし向けることが原義になった。
注意や意志を目標へ向けることから、「意図する・計画する」という意味が生まれ、intended は「意図された・計画された」を表す。intended は「心を目標へ伸ばした結果」と覚えるとよい。
tend(向かう・傾向がある)、attention(注意)、intention(意図)も、意識や方向をある対象へ向けるイメージでつながる。in- と tend を見たら「中へ向けて伸ばす」と読むのがコツ。
