覚え方
ラテン語 versiō（回転・変化・訳文）は、vertō（回転させる・方向を変える・ひっくり返す）+ -tiō（動作・過程・結果を表す名詞語尾）から成る。もとは「向きを変えること・別の形にすること」を表した。
文章を別の言語へ向きを変えるように移すことから、「訳文」という意味が生まれた。さらに、同じ内容を別の形にしたものという感覚から、改訂版や製品の「バージョン」、人や事柄の「見解」へと意味が広がった。
vers を見たら「向きを変えて別の形にする」と読むのがコツ。reverse（逆向きにする）・convert（形を変える）・diverse（別々の方向へ向いた）も、*wert-（素早く回転する・連続して旋回する）の仲間である。
