覚え方
ギリシャ語 ᾰ̓νᾰφορᾱ́（基準への言及）= ᾰ̓νᾰφέρω（上へ運ぶ）+ -η（動詞から行為を表す名詞をつくる）。「前に出たものへ運び戻すこと」が核。
「運ぶ」の部分は *bʰer-（運ぶ）に遡り、refer（元へ運ぶ＝参照する）・transfer（越えて運ぶ）・metaphor（意味を運び移す＝隠喩）と同族。
修辞学では「行や文の頭で同じ語句を繰り返す技法」、言語学では代名詞などが前に出た語を指し戻す「照応」。用語は二つでも、「前に出たものへ運び返す」という一つのイメージで説明がつく。
