覚え方
conform（規準に合わせる）+ -ist（〜する人）。conform の前半は *kom-（共に）にさかのぼり、後半は form（形）。まわりと形を共にする、つまり型に自分を合わせることを表す。
そこから conformist は「型どおりに従う人・体制順応者」。形容詞としても使い、conformist society なら「横並びの社会」。
否定の non- を付けた nonconformist は「型にはまらない人」で、英国史では国教会に従わない人を指した。名詞形 conformity（順応）と合わせると使い分けやすい。
