覚え方
conformation は、ラテン語 cōnfōrmātiō（形を整えて一致させる・適合させる）に由来する。これは cōnfōrmō（形を整えて一致させる・適合させる）に、-tiō（動作・過程・結果） が加わった形で、「形を整えて一致させること」を表す。
*kom-（共に・完全に） のイメージを加えると、ばらばらの部分を整えて、全体として合う形にするという意味になる。そこから conformation は、物の「形態・構造」だけでなく、条件への「適合性」も表す。con- のまとまりと form の形を意識すると、formation（形成）や conform（適合させる）とも結びつけて覚えられる。
