覚え方
ラテン語 organum（道具・楽器）から。ある働きをするために作られた仕掛け、というのが元のイメージで、そこから意味が二方向に伸びた。
一つは楽器の方向で、多数のパイプを組み合わせて音を出す「オルガン」。もう一つは体の方向で、それぞれ決まった働きを担う「器官・臓器」である。さらに、社会の中で特定の機能を果たす「機関（報道機関など）」にも使う。
organ は「決まった働きをする仕掛け」と押さえると、organic（器官の→有機的な）・organism（生物体）・organize（機能する形に組む）が一本の線でつながる。
