series（一続きのもの）+ -al（〜に関する）で、「連続した・一連の」。いくつかの物や出来事が順につながっている様子を表す。a serial drama は話が何回にも分かれて続く連続ドラマ。名詞の a serial も連載小説や連続番組などを指し、前の回を受けて次の回が進む形を思い浮かべるとよい。
