覚え方
フランス語 titre を元に作られた動詞 titrate に、-ion（行為・結果を表す名詞を作る） が付いた語。日本語では滴定。
濃度の分かっている溶液を少しずつ滴下し、反応が終わる点を見て相手の濃度を割り出す分析法のこと。医学でも、薬の量を少しずつ増減して適量を探ることを titrate と言い、titrate the dose（用量を調整する）のように使う。
-ate はラテン語系の語幹から動詞を作る語尾で、activate・validate と同じ。それに -ion を重ねて行為の名詞を作る型は、英語に非常に多い。
