adjunctの語源と覚え方
覚え方
ラテン語 adiungō（つなぐ・付け加える）の分詞 adiūnctus から。ad-（〜へ）+ iungō（つなぐ・結びつける）で、「本体へつなぎ足したもの」が原義。
*yewg-（つなぐ・軛でつなぐ）は join（つなぐ）・junction（接合点）・conjunction（接続詞）・yoke（軛）と同じ家族。adjunct は「本体に添えて結びつけた補助的なもの」で、なくても本体は成り立つのがポイント。
文法では文の必須要素でない修飾成分（副詞句など）を adjunct と呼ぶ。米国の adjunct professor（非常勤講師）も「本務の教員に付随する立場」から。
