directed- 1形容詞方向づけられた、指導された
覚え方
direct（向ける・まっすぐな）+ -ed で「方向づけられた・管理された」。direct はラテン語 dīrēctus（まっすぐな・直接の）= dis-（ばらばらに・離れて）+ rēctus（まっすぐな・正しい） で、dīs- という綴りの異形も同じ部分を指す。原義は「別々の方向へまっすぐ伸ばす」である。
rēctus の芯 *h₃reǵ-（まっすぐにする／正す） は correct（正す）・rectangle（直角のある四辺形）・regular（規則的な）と共通で、rect を見たら「まっすぐ・正しい」と読める。
補足: 情報科学の a directed graph（有向グラフ）は「辺に向きがある」、teacher-directed（教師主導の）は「誰が方向を決めるか」。向きが与えられているという一語で両方が読める。
