覚え方
dis-（離れて）＋ count（数える）で、「数えた額から一部を離す」が核。フランス語 descompte を経た語で、請求額から一部を差し引くことが「割引」「割引する」になった。
評価から一部を差し引くように扱えば「軽視する・割り引いて聞く」。discount a rumor（噂を真に受けない）のように使う。「全体から一部を外す」の一点で、値引きと軽視がつながる。
名詞では at a discount（割引で）、a 10% discount（1割引き）。discount store（安売り店）も同じ。
