覚え方
follow は古英語 folgian（誰かや何かの後について行く）に由来する。後ろについて行くという、目の前の人や道筋をそのまま追う動作が中心にある。
そこから、物理的に「追う」だけでなく、人の指示や規則に「従う」、説明や話の流れを「理解する」という意味にも広がった。話の筋を追っていくことが、理解することにつながる。
follow を見たら、「後ろについて行く」から、相手の指示に従い、話の流れを追って理解する、と意味を展開するとよい。
