覚え方
whole（完全な。中英語 hole）や heal（治す）に、状態を表す名詞を作る語尾 -th が付いた形と見ることができる。欠けたところがない状態、が中英語 helthe すなわち「健康」である。
truth・depth・length と同じ -th の仲間で、形容詞や動詞から状態の名詞を作る型だと押さえるとよい。
whole（完全な）とも heal（治す）とも近く、治すとは欠けを埋めて全体に戻すこと。in good health（健康で）・public health（公衆衛生）のように使う。
