覚え方
ラテン語 status（状態・地位）は、立つというイメージをもつ *steh₂-（立つ）から生まれた。「立っている場所・あり方」が、そこから「状態」や、社会の中で立つ位置としての「地位・身分」へ発展した。
status から来た state（状態・国家）や status 自体を思い浮かべると覚えやすい。立っている位置が status＝状態・地位と考えるのがコツ。
