覚え方
custom（慣習・習わし）+ -ary（〜に関する） で「慣例の・いつもの」。誰かが定めた規則だからではなく、繰り返されてきたから当たり前になった、という含みが核にある。
it is customary to ~（〜するのが慣例だ）、customary law（慣習法）のように、成文の規則と対比して使われることが多い。「明文化されていないが皆がそうしている」と読むと、usual や habitual との差が出る。
補足: custom には「税関・関税（customs）」の意味もあるが、customary にその意味合いはない。
