覚え方
clos はラテン語 claudō（閉じる・閉ざす）、en は「中へ」。そこへ行為とその結果を表す ure が付くので、「囲い込むこと」と「囲われた場所」の両方を指せる。
動物を入れる柵の中（a wildlife enclosure）、会場の一区画（the members' enclosure）のように使う。イギリス史では the Enclosures（囲い込み）という固有の使い方もある。
さらに、手紙に同封したものも enclosure で、書式では Enc. と略す。掛け金で閉ざす絵を clos に読むとよい。
