manage（管理する・うまく回す）+ -ment（行為やその結果を表す名詞）。人・金・時間・資源を調整して、組織が目的どおりに動く状態を保つ営みを指す。

意味は二層あり、行為としての「管理・経営」と、その担い手としての「経営陣」。The management has decided ...（経営側は〜と決定した）のように集合名詞で使うのが後者で、労使を表す management and labor（経営者側と労働者側）も定番。

crisis management（危機管理）・time management（時間管理）・management fee（管理手数料）と守備範囲が広い。manage の『どうにか回す』が名詞になった語と押さえ、manager・managerial と一組で覚えるとよい。
