notionの語源と覚え方
覚え方
not はラテン語 nōscō(知る・見知る)。知るという働きを名詞にした nōtiō が「認識・概念」で、英語 notion は頭の中でまとまった「考え・概念」を指す。
ただの思いつきではなく、認識としてひとまとまりになった考えだというのが核。have no notion of(見当もつかない)、the notion that …(〜という考え)。not を見たら「知る」と読めば、notice(気づく)ともまとめて覚えられる。have a vague notion(漠然と思い込む)のように、根拠の薄い考えを言うこともある。
