覚え方
ラテン語 rēctificō（正す・調整する）= rēctus（まっすぐな・正しい）+ -ficō（〜にする）。「まっすぐな状態にする」がそのまま「誤りを正す・是正する」になった。
*h₃reǵ-（まっすぐにする・正す） の仲間には correct（正す）・direct（まっすぐ向ける）・erect（直立させる）・regular（規則正しい）がいる。rect を見たら「まっすぐ・正しい」と読めばよい。
-ficō は「〜にする」を作る部品で、simplify（単純にする）・classify（分類する）・justify（正当化する）と同じ並び。rectify a mistake / rectify the situation（誤り・状況を正す）のように、書き言葉でよく使う。
